What to Do When You Think You Have a Plumbing Leak

The extreme weather conditions around Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky can seriously stress your pipes, leading to leaks and big problems. It’s a good idea to check a few times a year for signs that you might have a plumbing leak.
If you think that you have a plumbing leak, the first thing to do is to turn off all the water in your home and go out to your water meter. If the meter still turns, the leak is on your property, not on your utility company’s side of the meter.
If the leak seems to be severe (the meter is spinning quickly), you are probably best to shut off your water at the meter. You can check around the house for obvious leaks. If you don’t see any evidence of a leak in the house, you’ll need to call in a licensed plumbing technician who has the equipment and experience to find exactly where the leak is, and fix it.
